Deborah R. Smith
Early Childhood Education Administrator/Elementary Teacher

Mrs. Smith has extensive teaching and administrative experience in early childhood education.  She was previously employed with Knox County Head Start and was owner and operator of Noah's Ark Christian Child Care Center.  Mrs. Smith oversees all aspects of Grace Covenant Baptist Academy's early childhood education program and is responsible for Grace Covenant Baptist Academy's teacher development and curriculum.  She holds the Child Development Associate Credential for early childhood education.  She is married to Rev. Dr. Alan Smith, Founding Pastor of Grace Covenant Baptist Church.

Jamie C. Carter
Elementary Teacher

Mrs. Carter holds a Master of Arts in Education degree with a concentration on Excellence in Teaching from Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee. She is a Knoxville native and a graduate of Karns High School.  Mrs. Carter and her family are active members of the Seymour Church of God where she serves as Children's Worship Pastor.  Prior to teaching at GCBA, Mrs. Carter was employed by Knox County Schools as a kindergarten interventionist in providing extra reading support to at-risk children who fall into the 11th—25th percentile in reading. The instruction for these students was fast-paced, repetitious and supportive.
Dr. Alan T. Smith
Administrative Pastor

Dr. Smith is the founding Pastor of Grace Covenant Baptist Church and Academy, serving since January 1993.  He is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, and the son of a Baptist minister.  Dr. Smith holds the Doctorate in Christian Counseling Psychology and Master of Arts in Ministry degrees.  He completed his undergraduate studies at Carson-Newman University, Jefferson City, Tennessee.  Dr. Smith is married to the former Deborah R. Stroud, Early Childhood Education Administrator of Grace Covenant Baptist Academy.
Shelby C. Martinez
Preschool Teacher

Mrs. Martinez greets our parents each morning as she receives our Preschool students arriving for the day and our After School parents in the afternoons as they pick up their students from our weekday After School program.  In addition to her responsibilities in our Preschool and After School classrooms, Mrs. Martinez serves as a teaching assistant for our Kindergarten and First Grade classes.  She speaks both English and Spanish fluently and is instrumental in teaching our Preschool children basic words of the Spanish language.  She has been employed by Grace Covenant Baptist Academy since June 2010.
Lindsey N. Smith
Preschool Teacher

Miss Lindsey, as she is affectionately known, as been teaching our Preschool children since January 2005.  Before coming to Grace Covenant Baptist Academy, she served as a Preschool teacher for Noah's Ark Learning Center of Knoxville.  Her many years of Preschool teaching experience brings a wealth of knowledge to the classroom.  Her giving spirit and love for children makes her a perfect addition to any Preschool classroom.  Miss Lindsey attended Karns High School where she served in the classroom assisting children with special needs.  One of her many responsibilities in the classroom is leading the morning large-group circle time where the children are taught the theme, letter and Bible story of the week, plus so much more.
Melissa D. Speight
Preschool Teacher

Mrs. Speight has been employed by Grace Covenant Baptist Academy since August 2009.  She holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree from Pellissippi State Community College and has completed the Introduction to TECTA (30 hours) toward the completion of the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.  The Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance (TECTA) is a statewide system established to provide affordable professional development with academic degree credit possibilities for Tennessee’s early childhood education personnel.  Before coming to GCBA, Mrs. Speight was employed by Noah's Ark Learning Center of Knoxville.  She is active in her church's children's ministry and serves as an area vocalist for special occasions.
